ABOUT SAINT-GERMAIN-DES-PRÉS, PARIS
Saint-Germain-des-Prés is on the Left Bank, in the 6th arrondissement, named after the abbey church at its centre, one of the oldest churches in Paris. In the years after the Second World War its cafés, Café de Flore and Les Deux Magots among them, were where Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir and their circle wrote and argued. The neighbourhood is still built around the café terrace, the bookshop and the gallery. Autumn, when the plane trees turn, is the season it looks most like itself.
The print is a single table: red wine, an open notebook, a waiter in black, the street wet after rain and the leaves gone gold. It suits a writer, a reader, or anyone who once lived in a small Paris flat and still orders a glass of Bordeaux at five. Giclée-printed on Hahnemühle German Etching, available unframed, on canvas or framed, delivered free.
