ABOUT THE GALLERIA VITTORIO EMANUELE II, MILAN

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is Milan's covered arcade, built between 1865 and 1877 to designs by Giuseppe Mengoni. Its glass-and-iron vault and central dome join Piazza del Duomo to Piazza della Scala, home of the opera house. Inside are cafés, bookshops and fashion houses, and a mosaic bull in the floor that visitors spin on, heel first, for luck. It is open to walk through at any hour, and at its most atmospheric on a wet evening.

The print looks out from under the glass: rain on the vault, amber light on the marble, a woman in a chocolate coat with an espresso, and the Duomo framed by the arch. It suits someone who works in Milan, goes for the opera or fashion week, or met someone there. Giclée-printed on Hahnemühle German Etching, available unframed, on canvas or framed, delivered free.
