ABOUT AVORIAZ
Avoriaz is a car-free ski resort at about 1,800 metres in Haute-Savoie, France, opened in the late 1960s on a ledge above Morzine. Its buildings, clad in wooden shingles and shaped to echo the surrounding rock, are among the best-known examples of French mountain architecture of the period. The resort sits at the heart of the Portes du Soleil, a ski area that crosses the border between France and Switzerland. In March the sun terraces fill from midday.
The print is one of those terraces: striped deckchairs in the snow, two cups still steaming, the shingled roofs of Avoriaz against a cobalt sky. It suits someone who skis for the lunch, a fan of modernist architecture, or a family that has spent every February half-term in the Portes du Soleil. Giclée-printed on Hahnemühle German Etching, available unframed, on canvas or framed, delivered free.
